your eyes are shining

"I know. I can feel them shining."

from The Red Coat by John Patrick Shanley. I signed up at the beginning of the week for this out of class discussion with mollye and 6 other kids from 7-8 about this very, very short play. we read through it, discussed in depth, and read it again. we kept discovering new things each time we read it. it was this at first pretty cliche, a little off, love story. but upon talking and questioning it, it was absolutely lovely. really. it's all about connections and youth and permanence and infatuation. it boiled down to, or so i thought: "what is love?" really great, i recommend it. and it takes about..10 minutes to read, it's so short (maybe 4 pages.)

anyways today =

dance - did a bunch of floorwork, ballet handstands, prances, and then did partner work where we created a dance with a few requirements and then put them together with the whole class.

singing - gaaaaaaaaaah. this lady is crazy. plus i'm not really the singing type. and we have to memorize "carolina in the morning", which i've sung before. when i was a camper at the age of 11. it's such a monotonous song and we're going to sing it as a solo and then a group song with the whole drama program at the end performance with harmonies and shtuff, but still. really. you know, "nothing could be sweeter than my sweetie when i meet her in the mooooorning..." and all that jazz. and the teacher is a little insane, maybe, but we got to do really cool anatomy coloring drawings and figure out where the larynx and vocal chords, etc were. i love anatomy. and of course we did our crazy breathing hissing humming exercises.

camera - AWESOME CLASS TODAY. we had to bring in songs on our i-pods with a song picked out to clean a room to. an important person was coming, and that's why we were doing it - we had to clean it in a rush for 2 minutes and then improv the rest of the scene, once that person entered. we also had to have given circumstances, or a background story in our head (name, occupation, location, problem, etc). and we were filmed, of course, and we're gonna watch/critique tomorrow. i did "perfect day" by hoku and played a privileged, 20 yr old girl named halie who just got engaged 2 weeks ago and is going to meet her mother-in-law for the first time, but had a party the night before because the maid resigned and so i partied because i had to drown my sorrows and woke up in the AM and was still drunk when my mom in law was coming...slash i'd never cleaned a thing in my life because i always had people to do it for me. it was fun. everyone else's were hilarious. i'm working with a talented bunch, that's for sure.

then of course acting in the afternoon...was sweet, as per usual.
did a bunch of exercises and then memory shit and took notes. there's just too much for me to type about it...so much goes on in that class.

ps - i got my ACT scores back and was pleasantly surprised! i can actually go to college now ! i totally bombed the SAT, so I'm glad these were much much better...

i'm gonna wear my kickass high tops tomorrow with pink lightning bolts that i just received from home in the mail, since i left them there...and can only wear closed-toed shoes. scoooore.

  1. The Red Coat is a great play, I've read it. HIGH FIVE on the high tops, you know how jealous I am of them. And it's all wonderful, I'm so glad you're having a great time! We never did camera work, but we did have voice&speech.
